Former NCIS actress Cote de Pablo already has confirmed that she won’t be returning for next week’s final episode of original cast member Michael Weatherly, but viewers hoping for some closure to the long-running series’ central romance won’t be disappointed, Weatherly said today. In a press call, Weatherly — who has played Agent Anthony DiNozz0 for 13 seasons on NCIS — said of de Pablo’s Ziva David character, “I think the audience will feel very strongly that she’s in the episode in a way that might be a little Shakespearean but it’s real, and I think it’s going to be a very exciting time for fans of that relationship. I mean, bring a box of whatever you need, bring a change of clothing. You might not be able to go to work the next day.” Asked point blank if Shakespearean meant dead – a not-unreasonable presumption given the explosion that ended last night’s episode, with Ziva’s family farmhouse in Israel apparently blown to bits by terrorists – Weatherly responded “I think it’s more than that, a lot more. The pilot was written by McGraw and Paul Attanasio and directed by Rodrigo Garcia, executive produced by Attanasio, Phil and Jay McGraw, Justin Falvey & Darryl Frank of Amblin Television and Garcia. In addition to Weatherly, the Bull pilot’s cast includes Freddy Rodriguez, Geneva Carr and Chris Jackson. “I’m really not allowing myself to get too excited about it until after NCIS last episode next Tuesday,” he said. “I’ve been given this great moment to look down the path a little bit and make decisions that haven’t been available to me in 14 years,” Weatherly said. “I really want to spend a lot of time with my family, and not just my two children at home here but my 20-year-old and my parents on the East Coast, and friends I haven’t seen in quite some time.” Despite the down time, he said, he’s “busier than ever – but I can’t talk about most of it.” “The last time I was in this position was after a show called Dark Angel,” he said of the 2000-02 Fox drama. “I was in a Town Car on the way to the Upfronts with co-star Jessica Alba, and the driver got a call to Turn ’em around.’” Weatherly said the cancellation was welcomed by Alba, who wanted to do movies. “But I thought, Oh f*ck, I’m unemployed.’ It doesn’t feel that way now.” NCIS January 5, 2016 While we imagine that over the course of the next few days there will be more said regarding Michael Weatherly’s pending “NCIS” exit at the end of the season, there is still an obvious elephant in the room that needs to be addressed Can the show really say goodbye to the Anthony DiNozzo character without including Ziva in some shape or form? It has now been over two years since Cote de Pablo exited the show, and while she has been mentioned certainly at times, she has not been brought back in any capacity since. While we think it would only be right for her to return, will she? Let’s try to weigh out what could happen in this situation. The case for Ziva – She’s one of the most popular cast members in show history, and there have been fans wanting her back ever since she left. We know that there were a wide array of issues at the heart of her departure, but we think that for the sake of the story and for Michael, all parties involved would benefit from getting to see some sort of proper send-off that involved her, even if it was just for a scene or two. We just hope that everyone is as enthusiastic about the idea of her being a part of the send-off as we are. Ziva could finally return to America to try to start things anew with Tony, or maybe he decides to go somewhere else where he can be closer to her. Even if they are not romantically intertwined, you could at least make it so that they are a part of each other’s lives in some capacity. The case against Ziva – The only thing that we can say here is that maybe the show feels like they already gave Ziva a proper send-off, or for some reason or another the producers or Cote don’t want to revisit the character. That would make little sense to us, though, given that all parties involved have previously said that they would be hoping to bringing her back if the timing was right. When you work together for over a decade, you’re bound to form some special connections. This is true for former NCIS star Cote de Pablo. The actress formed a special connection with co-stars Mark Harmon, who plays Jethro Gibbs, and Michael Weatherly, who played Tony left the series primarily in season 10 but did make a shocking return for a few episodes in seasons 16 and 17. “[Mark Harmon] is more of a friend mentor. He was always like a father figure to me. Obviously, Ziva and Gibbs have that but Cote and Mark have that as well,” she said in an interview with BUILD. However, Cote and Mark don’t necessarily stay in touch all the time. “He’s a very busy, famous man. Obviously, there are many months where you just don’t talk, but it’s really nice to know that sometimes when you have friendships but certainly in family – that’s a given- you can go time without talking but you’ve laid a foundation. A foundation that is solid,” she said. Harmon certainly is busy. He also is an executive producer of NCIS. “From that foundation, you can really go anywhere,” Cote de Pablo explained. “You can go years without talking. Really heavy-duty things can happen, and then all the sudden you’re back and you can pick up right where you left off.” It seems that that’s exactly what happened with her and Mark Harmon when she returned to set. “I have that with a lot of people I’ve worked with,” she said. “Certainly with Mark, certainly with Michael. They’re relationships that are very, very special. For many reasons. They’re forged in the heat of pressure. At times you’re having really great days and at times you’re having really challenging days.” Cote de Pablo Reunited With Harmon in a Secret Meeting Before Season 16 FinaleIn the season 16 finale of NCIS, Cote De Pablo returned, shocking audiences. But before she even returned to the set she had a secret meeting with Mark Harmon, where they reunited after years apart. During a classified meeting with executive producers, Mark Harmon surprised her. “I just gave him a big hug and he just went Cotes,” she continued. “It was just like like right in the chest you know and just a hug and very heartfelt.” NCIS’ Will Air in a New TimeslotNCIS season 19 will air in a new timeslot. It’s still not clear if either one of them is going to be appearing in the show Weatherly’s a little bit busy with Bull, but we know that it’s a project that they are excited about doing. With that in mind, Weatherly passed along a hopeful message on his official Twitter see below in response to a question from a fan asking for an update. Beyond the fact that there’s a script in contention at CBS, everything is still early. We’ll probably get a little bit more news regarding MIA down the line, especially if it ends up landing a pilot. In the event that we do get a pilot, beyond that we’ll just have to wait and see if this ends up becoming a series. There are a lot of different hoops that need to be jumped through. Yet, we definitely still think that it’s great to have de Pablo and Weatherly working together again after they did on NCIS for many years. We certainly do think that this project does offer up a great chance for Cote to appear on Bull if the right role comes along, mostly because it brings some more publicity to herself — which, in turn, could lead to more publicity for the show itself. We’re really hoping, in the end, that there is a chance to see more of Cote acting somewhere, given that the last major network role that she had was for the miniseries The Dovekeepers.
